Gir
Gir forests, Gujarat
Easy to spot by her domed forehead and long, curled ears. The Gir is one of India's oldest dairy breeds, known for a gentle nature and rich, creamy milk.
Our story
Hamba is named after the gentle call of a desi cow. We look after our cows first. We believe that is the only way to make milk and ghee worth putting on your family's table.
Most of us grew up on milk that came from a cow we could name. Somewhere along the way that turned into pouches from faraway plants, milk that is toned, standardised and travels for days.
Hamba is our way back. We work only with native Gir and Sahiwal cows, keep the process simple, and bottle the milk in glass so it reaches Kolkata tasting the way milk should. From the same milk, we make ghee the slow bilona way, from curd and by hand.
We would rather do two things properly than twenty things badly. That is why there are only two products on this website.
Meet the cows
Both breeds are native to India and naturally give milk with A2 beta-casein. They are hardy, calm and well suited to our climate.
